Looking after your mattress is essential for maintaining its durability and hygiene. Taking proper care of your mattress will extend its lifespan and ensure it serves you well for many years to come.
Here are a few tips on how to look after your mattress:
1. Regular cleaning.
Vacuum your mattress regularly to remove dust and small particles of dirt. Use a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment.
If your mattress has stains, try removing them gently using a mild detergent or a special upholstery cleaner. Before using any product, check that it is safe for your mattress. Our covers have a zip fastening; they can be removed and machine-washed at 40°C. The cover can be ironed at temperatures up to 110° – one dot on the iron setting. Do not dry-clean; we also do not recommend tumble drying – hang to dry instead.
We manufacture our mattresses exclusively from new, unused foam, springs and other components. Please also note that, when exposed to oxygen, new foam will, over time, turn a more yellowish colour; this is a natural phenomenon that occurs in every mattress and does not affect its properties or quality.
2. Rotating the mattress.
Rotate your mattress every few months to ensure it wears evenly on both sides. This will extend its lifespan. When using the mattress correctly, you should turn it over every 2–3 months, flipping it upside down, and also rotate it horizontally, switching the head and foot ends. This will allow the compressed foam to recover, and the entire mattress will have a longer lifespan. Remember, too, that a mattress is made from soft and flexible materials – foams that are constantly under strain – and are therefore subject to natural wear and tear. Every new mattress becomes softer after a short period of use (2–4 months), and natural indentations also form in the foam where the body lies and where there is increased pressure. Therefore, indentations on the mattress surface of up to 3–4 cm are not covered by the warranty, as they constitute natural wear and tear of the materials which do not affect the quality or usability of the product.
3. Using a fitted sheet or mattress protector.
Buying a soft fitted sheet or mattress protector will help to protect the mattress from stains, dust and allergens. The protector can be easily replaced, removed and washed, which makes it easier to maintain hygiene.
4. Airing the mattress.
Every now and then, get rid of moisture and unpleasant odours by airing out the mattress. Open a window and leave the mattress out for a few hours. When doing your spring cleaning, you can take the mattress out onto the balcony and leave it there for a few hours.
5. Avoid jumping on the mattress.
Avoid jumping or sitting on the edge of the mattress, as this can shorten its lifespan.
6. Cleaning stains.
Remove spilled drinks and stains quickly to prevent permanent damage and the growth of bacteria. Use mild detergents and avoid over-wetting the mattress.
7. Change your bed linen regularly.
Change your bed linen regularly to minimise the transfer of dirt from the bed linen to the mattress.
8. Avoid eating in bed.
If possible, avoid eating in bed to prevent accidentally spilling food and drinks onto the mattress.
Remember that looking after your mattress properly will extend its lifespan and ensure it serves you well for many years to come. By following our recommendations, you’ll keep your mattress in the best possible condition.
